Galicica National Park is one of North Macedonia’s most precious natural gems, known for its unique flora and fauna.

It’s a true botanical paradise with over 1,600 plant species, more than 40 of which are Balkan or local endemics.

But did you know that Lynx lynx balcanicus – the Balkan lynx – also roams here? A STRICTLY PROTECTED and critically endangered species, among the rarest in Europe.

In 2020, after nearly 50 years, a camera trap captured one! A historic moment – proof that the lynx is walking through Galicica’s forests once again.

Over the past three years, the lynx has been recorded 12 times. This rare hunter, a natural regulator of the ecosystem, is slowly reclaiming its place.

The lynx is a symbol of the wild, a silent guardian of the forest, and proof that when given the chance, nature can recover.
