OUT 2024 #Runnersstories Kornélia Horváth - Hungary

You need the motivation to keep trail running? Be inspired and join Kornélia Horváth from Hungary at the starting line of Ohrid Ultra-Trail next edition in May 2024.

OUT: Please introduce yourself to our followers.

I am Kornélia Horváth (@simannelli), an extremely enthusiastic amateur runner. I am an economist by profession, but I have been holding musical development sessions for babies and toddlers for years. I live in Pécs, Hungary with my three sons (12,14, and 16 years old), so they are the priority in my life.

OUT: How long have you been running/trail running? (why do you run)

Since I was a child, I did many sports, where running was an additional exercise. Trail running became my main sport 8 years ago, and I have been running regularly since then. I really enjoy it. It adds a lot to my life.

OUT: What do you enjoy most about trail running?

Trail running means freedom to me, it’s taught me how much more we are capable of than we think. It recharges me, gives me a lot of experience, and makes me more energetic in other areas of life

OUT: Do you have a memorable running experience/story to share with us? (or your biggest achievement)

I have had many memorable experiences through running. Perhaps my greatest successes were my first place in the KAT100 Marathon in 2021 and my 15th place in the Lavaredo Ultra Trail (2022).

OUT: How do you stay motivated when the going gets tough?

I'll go up the mountain for a sunrise anytime 😊. I am mostly motivated, I don't see it as training, but as fun, joy, and a gift. I appreciate the time I can spend running. In addition, my partner and my running friends also encourage me, even if I don't feel like going out for some reason.

OUT: What are your top three "little things" that you do to prevent injury?

I couldn't avoid the injuries either, but I'm trying to. I use several shoes in parallel and change them constantly. I regularly do strengthening and relaxation exercises. I believe in massage too, which I have quite a bit of time for lately.

OUT: If you could give a single piece of advice to less experienced trail runners what would it be?

Gradation 😊, gradation. Give your body, muscles and joints time to get used to running. Gradually increase the distance, don't die in every run, and above all enjoy the run.
